I feel like I should share my Givenchy Noir Couture Volume mascara review with you today because it did a stand-up job of keeping itself together over the weekend … Even when I couldn’t.

I attended the Remembrance Day Parade at the Cenotaph in Southend, and my mascara of choice for the day was this one … stupidly. I mean, it’s an emotional day. Who doesn’t wear waterproof mascara to an event like that? Me, apparently. I’m not really sure what I was thinking when I chose this sample over my regular waterproof mascara, but I made that decision and there was very little I could do about it, stood in the middle of Southend, surrounded by what felt like a million other people.
Thankfully, the mascara did pretty well. Despite my tears (and my eyes watering because the wind was really lashing at my face at various points), I didn’t end up with the classic panda eyes look. The mascara didn’t run … at all. In fact, for a non-waterproof mascara, I actually think it held itself together better than some waterproof ones I’ve tried.
Givenchy’s Noir Couture Volume mascara brought a lot more to the table than I thought. I was sent a 4ml sample of this through the #GlamourBeautyClub, along with a sample of L’Interdit, the 2018 revival of a classed Givenchy fragrance. I reviewed that, too after bizarrely getting a whole bunch of samples from different places >> Givenchy L’Interdit Perfume Review.
Before I received any of these samples, I’d never tried any Givenchy beauty products.
Black (Than Black) Taffeta
I received the mascara in the shade Black Taffeta, and it might actually be one of the blackest-black mascaras I’ve ever used. I compared it to three other mascaras, all high street branded stuff, and the others looked almost dark greyish in comparison.
(No) Floatin’ & Flakin’
As well as not floating down my face when I get emotional (which happens a lot more than it should), I didn’t find that the mascara flaked throughout the day, and I didn’t need to reapply it, either. You know how sometimes your eyelashes can get all spidery, weird, and stuck-together when you were crying but the tears have all dried up? Well, this mascara didn’t do that. There were a couple of lashes I had to separate, but the majority of them were still in place and blacker-than-black.
I Don’t Want No Smears
… And luckily for me, there were none. In actual fact, after crying like a blubbery mess for close to an hour, I then went home, went about the rest of my day, and totally FORGOT to take my makeup off before I went to bed. (Yes, I’m disgusting. I know, I’m sorry.)
When I woke up in the morning, my eyelashes looked exactly the same as they had done the day before. It even took some pretty deep scrubbing to try and wash it off.
For staying power, I can’t rate this mascara enough. It’s like the superhero of mascaras.
The Science Stuff
I took a peek at the active ingredients on the Givenchy website to see what magical benefits the mascara is meant to have. (Because haven’t they all got something ‘magical’ to offer?) I learned that Givenchy Noir Couture mascara adds volume via keratin-filled microbeads made of silica. It also helps to nourish and fortify the lashes, using “nourishing rice peptides”. There’s also the “Lash Booster Expert Complex”, which combines Artemis Salina extract and Oxazolidone to revitalise, restructure, and protect the lashes.
I’m going to be honest with you … I don’t really know what half that stuff means, but I’ll give you my take on the mascara after using it for a few days. (Including one rather emotional one.)
Do my lashes look restructured, revitalised and protected? I *think* they might look a bit thicker. My eyelashes seem to fall out all over the place, but right now they look a bit fuller than usual without makeup. Whether that’s because of the mascara or something/anything else, I don’t know.
When I’m wearing the mascara, my eyelashes DEFINITELY look thicker and fuller. Again, I’m not sciencey enough to determine whether those silica micro-beads have pumped my lashes full of keratin, but the mascara did exactly what I wanted it to do. I wanted it to make my lashes longer, thicker, and blacker, and I got what I wanted. I’m not really a false eyelash gal, so I heavily rely on mascara, and this is one I could come to heavily rely on every day.
Givenchy Noir Couture Volume Mascara Review – The Conclusion
So, I’ve seen this mascara on offer from £16 to £25, and I actually don’t think that’s a bad price for the product. It’s definitely got serious staying power, not just staying in place throughout the day, but also not running down my face when the tears did. I also didn’t need to reapply it from day to night, something I tend to do with other mascaras.
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY plan to buy the product now I’ve tried the sample.
A 5/5 🌟 mascara for me!
As a final note: Givenchy Noir Couture Volume mascara is NOT vegan-friendly.
