Have you seen my Instagram profile? You may have noticed that I’ve adopted a certain style of formatting in my profile, and also in the captions themselves, with almost all of my Instagram profiles. There are line breaks in my bio, separating snippets of information.
It looks good, right?
These line breaks are sadly not a format that you can add using the Instagram app alone. I’m about to share my secrets though … Starting with teaching you how to add line breaks to your Instagram profile.
But first, why?
Adding these line breaks to your Instagram profile or bio space means that everything is kept clean, minimalist and uncluttered. It’s easier to separate snippets of information and also just looks a lot better. One of the first things you are taught when you first start a website or blog is to make sure you have plenty of clean, white space. I certainly suggest this in 15 Ways to Make Your Blog Better, and many other bloggers (and business owners) would agree with me. That’s what makes the line breaks so popular — they help to add this clean, white space. This is why many businesses, bloggers and even ‘regular’ Instagram page owners are choosing this line-break method of formatting. (Once they learn how, of course.)
How to Add Line Breaks to your Instagram Profile
You’re going to kick yourself when you realise how easy it is. In order to add line breaks to your Instagram profile, or image/video captions, you simply need to do a little bit of copy & pasting. Simply write out whatever it is you want to include in your profile, making sure you keep within the 150 characters, in a different app, and then copy and paste it into your profile.
It really is that simple.
When you’re filling in your captions, you’re given the option to add line breaks, but when the image or video goes live those line breaks are taken out. This can affect the formatting if you’re trying to make things look a certain way … Like the way I like to style mine. You aren’t given the option to add a ‘return’ line break at all in the profile/bio space, so it appears adding them might be impossible. It’s not impossible; you just need to use that copy and paste trick.
I like to use the ‘Notes’ app on my iPhone to write everything out first. Once the emojis have been added and everything is formatted to be requirements, I copy the lot and then paste into Instagram profile/bio space. By copy and pasting in this way, you’re keeping the formatting. You don’t lose the line breaks. The copy and paste trick also works for adding line breaks to your Instagram image and video captions too. Just so you know.
