500 Instagram Hashtags For Florists

Instagram Hashtags For Florists 2

Are you a small and local florist having a hard time mastering the infamous Instagram algorithm? Using a bunch of Instagram hashtags for florists that you found online somewhere but don’t seem to be getting anywhere fast?

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

In fact, even marketing managers and experienced ‘Grammers are having a hard time with the image-based social platform right now, and I can’t count the number of bloggers and businesses, big and small, that have thrown in the towel and finally given up on it … for good.

It’s a fickle platform and one that takes some serious effort. If you’re working the Instagram angle for your business, you need to work it every day. Unlike some of the other platforms, you can’t just throw stuff out into the world and expect the masses to come to it. Instead, you need to fight for the attention of potential followers, likers, and commenters. That means having an Instagram strategy that works.

There is no one magical way to master Instagram, which I know isn’t the news you want to hear. One thing that definitely helps, though, is using the right hashtags. It will be those hashtags that help you to get your posts seen by as many people as possible — and potentially lead to more sales and awareness for your flower shop or business.

WHICH HASHTAGS?

I’ve put together a massive list of hashtags for you to use if you’re a florist trying to grow your small and local business on Instagram, but I suggest using them in a strategic way. Don’t just bundle 30 of them together and then whack them at the end of your caption; mix various different ‘types’ of hashtags together for maximum effect.

This is the kind of thing I mean …

(The big list is right at the end of this post … Just in case you want to skip through all the super awesome tips n’ tricks!)

BANNED HASHTAGS

Let’s kick things off by talking about the hashtags that you definitely shouldn’t use — banned hashtags. I’ve talked about these in quite a lot of detail in other blog posts, including Are You Using Banned Instagram Hashtags? but the shortened version is this: banned hashtags will limit the number of people who see your posts, which then reduces the number of likes and comments.

I actually recently saw a blogger who was using a banned hashtag in all of her recent Instagram posts, and the number of likes and comments went down from around 75 likes and 20-or-so comments for each image [without banned hashtags] to only 5 or 10 likes on the post and no comments at all [with banned hashtags].

It’s a very dramatic drop.

Some banned hashtags don’t come up in the Instagram app when you search for them at all. These are usually the ‘naughty’ ones. Others only show the ‘Top posts’ and none of the recent ones. Unless you’re going to ensure yourself a spot in that ‘Top posts’ section, using the hashtag is a waste of time and will hinder your growth.

Just to show you how some of the most mundane hashtags are abused by users of Instagram, the app made #ValentinesDay a banned hashtag. Don’t use that particular hashtag for your Valentine’s Day flower promotion.

At the time of writing, none of the hashtags on the list of 500 Instagram Hashtags for Florists are banned. You are free to use them all without any worries.

HIGH & LOW-COMPETITION HASHTAGS

This is another topic that I’ve written about in a lot more detail in another post, but to keep things short and sweet I’ll just say this: if you use very popular hashtags (with millions of posts) all the time, there’s a pretty high chance the feed will move so quickly that your posts won’t get a look in. They’ll be in and out of that ‘Recent posts’ spot before you can even blink. There is a lot of competition for those hashtags — hundreds, thousands, and millions of people are using them in their posts.

If you mix in a combination of most-used hashtags (high-competition) with lesser-used hashtags, you’re going to have a greater chance of being seen by more people. I recommend using a couple of the popular ones, a few more of the lesser-known ones, and then some really specific ones, but that’s a relatively easy feat for me at this point. I’ve worked with a number of flower shops and blogs and done a fair bit of research on the topic. You could say that I know what’s hot and what’s not 😉

FLOWER-SPECIFIC HASHTAGS

We’re getting to the nitty-gritty now — the actual hashtags you should use to promote your local flower shop business on Instagram. The easiest place to start is to look at the actual image you’re about to share. I’m going to assume that it’s a flower-related image, so why not start with the actual flower itself.

Does your floral arrangement contain roses? There’s your perfect opportunity to jump on the rose-related hashtag bandwagon!

Think about what someone would look for if they were looking for floral inspiration on Instagram. If I’m looking for floral bouquets and arrangements that contain roses, I’m more likely to search for #roses than #flowers.

COLOUR-SPECIFIC HASHTAGS

In the same way that I would be more likely to search for #roses than #flowers on Instagram for rose arrangement inspiration, I’m probably going to add a specific colour in there. I could be planning a wedding that follows a peach-orange colour scheme — I would search for #peachroses or #orangeroses to get inspiration. There’s no way I’m going to want to sift through endless posts of red roses, pink roses, and white roses just to find the orange ones.

If you make it easy for people to find what they’re looking for, they’re going to think you’re super helpful. That means they’ll be more inclined to hit that follow button and/or engage with you

Woohoo!

SEASONAL-SPECIFIC HASHTAGS

I’m still following that what-would-I-search-for theme here, but let’s just say that I have a garden full of wonderful summer flowers and I’d like to know how to put them together in a cute bouquet that sits nicely on my dining room table. What will I look for on Instagram? Things like #summerflowers or #summerbouquets.

If you create a beautiful Instagram account that is packed to the brim with lovely images of flowers and interesting captions, people are going to want to follow you for inspiration and not just to buy flowers from you. Admittedly, having a thousand followers on the other side of the world isn’t going to help your small, local business make more money in terms of orders, but having lots of followers — genuine followers that LOVE your stuff — is not something to sniff at. New people will feel better about clicking that follow button when they see that thousands of other people have already hit it before them.

EVENT/OCCASION HASHTAGS

Think about all of the events or occasions that call for floral arrangements — those are GREAT hashtags to use when showing off your wares! If you have a bouquet that would make for a great bridal bouquet, you can use exactly that hashtag: #bridalbouquet. You could also opt for #bridalinspiration or #bridalblooms.

How about Mother’s Day flowers? Birthday flowers? Valentine’s Day Flowers? Or my personal favourite … apology flowers.

LOVELY LITTLE RANDOM HASHTAGS

These are hashtags that aren’t really suited to any one thing in particular, but instead, are used to describe cute things, beautiful things, or otherwise aesthetically-pleasing things. These hashtags are commonly used by female entrepreneurs, bloggers, etc., and are perfect for your aesthetically-pleasing flower arrangements!

DAYS OF THE WEEK HASHTAGS

Are you posting on a Monday? How about targeting people who are suffering from the #Mondayblues by using that hashtag? Who wouldn’t want beautiful flowers to brighten up an otherwise dull journey to work on a Monday morning?

Are you happy that it’s Friday? Celebrate it with the hashtags #Friyay, #Fridayvibes, etc.

These hashtags aren’t 100% relevant but are at the same time, you know? They work, but only when you use them sparingly. Don’t have an entire bundle of 30 hashtags all talking about #Monday. That’s too much Monday. But using #easyonasundaymorning when you’re posting your newest creation at 11 am on a Sunday? Yeah, that’s just fine 👌🏻

CREATIVE BUSINESS HASHTAGS

You *are* a creative business, right? You get a bunch of different flowers and then use them to create a floral arrangement that someone will love … You’re a creator! That means you can definitely use the hashtags related to creative businesses.

Here are a few of my personal favourites. (Because I’m a creator too!)

SMALL BUSINESS/WOMEN IN BUSINESS HASHTAGS

And let’s not forget about the fact that you’re a small business. There are plenty of those hashtags to go around! The #supportsmallbusiness campaign is in full flow right now, and bloggers and small business owners are turning to other small and local businesses/bloggers so that there’s a help-each-other-out situation going on. Collaborations are a great way to appeal to double the audience — yours and the person you’re collaborating with.

Also, you never know, you might just find a small local hairdressing salon or hotel that’s looking for a new florist to help decorate their workspaces.

PLACE-SPECIFIC HASHTAGS

This actually carries on from the small business hashtags — and definitely helps if you want to reach people in your immediate area. Let’s pretend for one moment that I’m a florist working and delivering in Southend and surrounding areas in Essex. I would use hashtags such as #Essexflowers, #Southendflorists, #flowersinLeighonSea, #SouthendonSeaflorist, #Westcliffweddingflowers, etc.

And then I’d throw a few of these in there — #Essexbusiness, #Southendsmallbusiness, etc.

I would also make a point of using the geolocation services on Instagram too, tagging myself in the town or place I’m targeting. This will make it easier for people in those areas to find my Essex/Southend-based small business and something I talk about a lot more in: 101 Instagram Tips For Bloggers, Influencers & Small Businesses

INSTAGRAM HASHTAGS FOR FLORISTS

And now for the ‘filler hashtags’ — these are ones you use to build your hashtag total to 30 maximum. I usually use between 20 and 30 hashtags, but there are differing opinions on how many you should actually use. Using all 30 potentially gives you maximum exposure, but they could also prove to be a total waste of time if you’ve just stuffed a bunch of 30 useless or non-relevant ones together. Sometimes, they can also look like spam.

A FEW EXAMPLES

Just in case you wanted to see exactly how I’d put together those floristry-related hashtags for maximum exposure on Instagram, I created a few mockups. Let me know what you think of them!

Let’s pretend I’m posting this bouquet on my floristry Instagram account on a Monday. These are the hashtags I could use for maximum exposure —

Instagram Hashtags For Florists-2.

Original image source: virandek / Pixabay

And let’s also imagine that I posted this beautiful image on Tuesday. I could throw these hashtags with the post —

Instagram Hashtags For Florists-3.

Keep pretending. I’ll post this violet loveliness on Wednesday, along with these hashtags —

Instagram Hashtags For Florists-4.

Original image source: Viktor Hanacek / PicJumbo

If you take a closer look, you’ll see that the hashtags are different in each of them. You may face that dreaded shadowban if you continue to use [copy/paste] the same hashtags over and over again, and you’re only limiting your own exposure by doing that. Think of each hashtag as a community — by using different ones in your captions, you’re potentially hitting different communities each time.

You’ll also notice that I use a range of different hashtags in each of them, but they *all* have location-specific tags, flower and colour-specific tags, arrangement-type hashtags, and small/creative business tags, along with the regular floristry ones. You’re targeting the people that will help to grow your business, particularly with those location-based hashtags.

And again — I can’t stress this enough — use the crap out of those location settings.
